Regular drill aimed at alleviating the aftermath of car accidents took place on the M-11 highway

Near St. Petersburg, at the 654th kilometer mark of the M-11 Neva highway, road workers carried out regular drill aimed at alleviating the aftermath of traffic accidents.

The road workers practiced the situation when, following an accident, motor traffic to Moscow is blocked. According to the drill backstory, this resulted in a traffic jam spanning a length of 3 kilometers. Drawing on the operational services' forecasts, it is estimated that this would take over 12 hours to cope with the emergency, document the accident details, and clear the lanes of cars. Bearing this in mind, it was decided to let drivers use an oncoming lane, as part of the drill.

To do that, the road workers arranged a provisional traffic plan, cordoned off the accident site, and removed the median barrier at two locations to allow cars to use an oncoming lane.

The scenario was fulfilled with accuracy and in compliance with the approved regulations. Therefore, the traffic flow was able to run through and the temporary traffic jam vanished.

We would like to remind all car owners that in case of an accident or witnessing one, there is no need to panic as video surveillance is carried out along the entire length of the highway. The operator of the Traffic Control Center would send accident managers to aid the affected parties. You may also request assistance by dialing *2323, which is operational over every turnpike run by Russian Highways State Company.
