Aftermath of the snowiest day in the past 56 years

Over the past 24 hours, road maintenance services on Russian Highways expressways operated in an enhanced mode. A total of approximately 350 multi-purpose maintenance trucks were deployed, of which roughly 200 were operating in the Moscow region.
Approximately 9,000 tons of de-icing chemicals were applied during the day. The road network operates over 3 thousand video surveillance cameras, 3700 digital message boards and variable message signs, and more than 2500 traffic sensors.
For continuous monitoring of weather conditions, 163 weather stations have been installed, analyzing data on more than 10 parameters to ensure constant monitoring of the road surface condition. Besides, to improve the safety of road users, 164 crews of emergency commissioners patrol the roads day and night.
Moscow and the surrounding region received over 60% of their typical monthly snowfall in just one day – the highest 24-hour total in 56 years. The cyclone also affected Central Russia Smolensk, Kaluga, Bryansk, Tula, Lipetsk, Voronezh, Rostov, Vladimir and Nizhny Novgorod Oblasts.
