On the eve of Defender of the Fatherland Day, the memory of road warriors honored
Employees of the Russian Highways laid flowers at the monuments dedicated to the defenders of the Motherland who made supreme sacrifice during the Great Patriotic War.
Staff of the Golitsyno branch paused for a moment of silence at the memorial to "Military Road Builders of the Great Patriotic War," located at km 71 down the M-1 "Belarus" highway. The memorial is dedicated to seven road builders, who on April 23, 1942 engaged superior enemy forces in battle at km 135 of the Minsk Highway. Their heroic feat allowed to gain time to regroup the Soviet troops at this area.
Employees of the St. Petersburg branch also paid tribute to the valour of the soldiers at the monument "Those Who Died in Defense of the Fatherland" at km 563 of the M-11 "Neva". The memorial complex was erected on the site where, in 1942, soldiers of the Second Shock Army of the Workers' and Peasants' Red Army fought their last battle. By diverting the enemy forces, they contributed to breaking the Siege of Leningrad.
