The M-12 “Vostok” section in Sverdlovsk Region is more than 40% ready

Two interchanges, five bridges and seven overpasses are slated to be built as part of the construction of the third stage of Dyurtyuli - Achit Highway in Sverdlovsk Region. This 43 km long section will be part of the M-12 Vostok Highway extension to Yekaterinburg. Today, it is over 40% ready.

Work is currently underway to install the subgrade and excavate the cuts. On marshy terrain with weak, unstable soils, works are carried out to replace unsuitable soil, to ensure the steadiness of the entire subgrade structure.

Work goes on at all road structures of the stage, including the bridge over the Bolshaya Sarana River. The height of its channel supports is comparable to a 15-story building, being over 50 meters high. Now the bridge workers are reinforcing and concreting the pile foundations of the structure’s supports, and the metal structures of the span are being assembled.

The technology of sliding formwork enables to speed up the construction of the bridge supports over the Bolshaya Sarana River. The formwork structure is moved vertically using special hoists and hydraulic guides, ensuring the continuous casting of concrete. The technology allows to avoid dismantling the formwork structure and installing it in a new place, which provides a noticeable time edge compared to the traditional method that uses jack-up formwork.

At the same time, works are conducted to reconstruct utility lines, build lighting poles, and power supply lines. All in all, 578 workers and over 100 units of machinery are employed at the site.

The section of Dyurtyuli – Achit Highway in Sverdlovsk Region represents one of three stages of the large-scale construction of the extension of the M-12 “Vostok” Highway to Yekaterinburg. The total length of the expressway from Dyurtyuli to Achit will be 275 km; it will run across the territory of three regions - the Republic of Bashkortostan, the Perm Krai and Sverdlovsk Region.

The benefits of the new motorway include not only a considerable time-saver, but also the comfort and safety of road users. The entire route will be illuminated, and noise barriers will be installed in the vicinity of residential areas. It is also planned to arrange 10 multifunctional road service zones, where motorists would be able not only refuel their vehicles, but also relax, have a snack and buy essential goods.

It is planned to complete the work and open traffic along the entire M-12 “East” Highway from the city of Dyurtyuli to the village of Achit at the end of 2024.
